Punta Mita Deep Sea Fishing Report: August
Punta Mita is heating up this August! Known for its world-class surf, this exclusive destination is also a hidden gem for deep-sea anglers. Let’s dive into what the waters around Punta Mita are offering this month.
Water Conditions Similar to its neighbor, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita enjoys warm, inviting waters with temperatures hovering around 82-84 degrees Fahrenheit. While the Pacific can be unpredictable, we’ve been experiencing mostly sunny days with occasional showers. The water clarity has been excellent, allowing us to spot baitfish schools and underwater structures with ease.
Deep Sea Action Punta Mita’s offshore waters are renowned for their big game species.
- Tuna: Yellowfin tuna are the undisputed kings of the offshore scene right now. We’ve been finding them in deeper waters, around the 120-300 foot range. Deep dropping and live baiting with skipjack or flying fish have been producing exceptional results. Anglers are reporting some impressive catches! On some says we have had to get the kite out to catch these tuna but most das are good with live bait or trolling.
- Sailfish: While not as abundant as tuna, sailfish are still making appearances. Trolling with a variety of lures in the blue waters is the key to hooking these majestic creatures.
- Marlin: Both black and blue marlin are in the area, though the bite has been sporadic. When they do bite, it’s an experience of a lifetime!
- Other Pelagics: Keep an eye out for dorado (mahi-mahi), wahoo, and other pelagic species that often accompany these big game fish.
