December 2025 Fishing Report: Punta Mita

Hello, Anglers! Captain Pete here, coming to you from the northern tip of the bay at the stunning waters of Punta Mita, the premier gateway to the Riviera Nayarit fishing scene. As we move into December 2025, the water temperatures are settling at a perfect 75°F (24°C). This is the green light for our annual winter migration, turning the deep blue Pacific off the point into a bucket-list destination for serious sport fishing. Whether you’re hunting a massive trophy or planning a fun family day, now is the time to book your Punta Mita fishing charter!fishing in Punta Mita

Deep Sea Fishing: The Edge of the Continent

The adrenaline is pumping right offshore! Because Punta Mita is located so much closer to the legendary deep-sea grounds—El Banco (The Bank) and El Corbetena (The Rock)—our guests enjoy shorter run times and more time with lines in the water. These areas are currently loaded with baitfish, drawing in the apex predators for a winter feast.

The Striped Marlin bite is exactly what we expect from this peak month. We’re seeing excellent numbers hooked up on slow-trolled live bait. These magnificent billfish thrive in the slightly cooler winter current breaks, delivering the high-flying fights that make Deep Sea Fishing out of Punta Mita a world-class adventure.

Yellowfin Tuna are still in the mix, too! While the giants are further out, we’re landing plenty of 40–80 lb schoolie fish around the structures. We are also finding an abundance of Sailfish, which we safely tag and release to ensure a healthy fishery for the future of Nayarit fishing. And don’t forget the Dorado (Mahi-Mahi); they are plentiful near temperature breaks, offering terrific action and excellent table fare.

Inshore Action: Roosters & Reef Runners

For anglers on shorter trips, the rocky points around Punta Mita are teeming with life. The star of our inshore show remains the powerful Roosterfish. Their activity peaks in December as they aggressively forage close to the shoreline rocks and sandy beaches. Slow-trolling live mullet is the guaranteed ticket for a spectacular fight.

We are also finding huge schools of hard-fighting Jack Crevalle and Spanish Mackerel, providing non-stop action that is perfect for families and beginners.punta mita fishing

🐋 Punta Mita Wildlife Spectacle

December in Punta Mita is truly magical. We are perfectly positioned to see the Humpback Whales as they enter the bay to breed and calve. It is a common sight to see massive mothers breaching right alongside the boat! This spectacle elevates every charter into a full-fledged nature tour. Ask about our specialized fishing and whale watching combo trips!
