Welcome to February 2026 from the “Spear of the Pacific!” If you are looking for the absolute best starting point for a trophy hunt in Mexico, you’ve arrived. While February is the month of romance, out here on the Point, our hearts belong to the screaming reels and the deep blue. If you’re ready to ditch the snow boots for flip-flops, Punta Mita fishing is currently delivering the kind of action that legends are made of.

Known for its luxury resorts and world-class service, Punta Mita offers a unique advantage: we are the closest departure point to the legendary offshore grounds. This means less travel time and more time with your lines in the water. As we hit the peak of the winter season, anglers from all over the world are realizing that fishing in Punta Mita during February is as good as it gets.Punta Mita fishing

The Weather & Water Conditions

The weather lately has been nothing short of spectacular. We are experiencing those classic winter patterns: crisp, 59°F mornings that make a hot coffee feel like heaven, followed by golden, 75°F afternoons. The ocean is behaving beautifully, but the real story is the water temperature.

Usually, we expect things to cool down significantly by now, but February 2026 has surprised us with a “warm pocket” holding steady at 74°F to 75°F. This thermal anomaly has completely changed the game, keeping summer species like mahi-mahi (Dorado) and sailfish in the area long after they usually head south.

The Offshore Breakdown: Marlin Madness

If you are coming for deep sea fishing Punta Mita, you are in for a treat. Because of our location, we can reach El Banco and La Corbetena faster than anyone else. While the cooling water has slightly slowed the Black and Blue Marlin, it has triggered a world-class striped marlin bite.

We are seeing these acrobatic billfish “tailing” on the surface in massive numbers. Our eight-hour Punta Mita fishing charters have been returning to the docks with some very exhausted but very happy anglers. To trigger these aggressive strikes, we’ve been having huge success with high-speed trolling using Black Bart and Joel Schultz tuna lures. If you want a double-digit marlin day, this is your window.

Inshore & Panga Action: The Roosterfish Capital

Not everyone wants to run 20 miles out, and frankly, you don’t have to. The nearshore action right around the Point is electric. For an authentic experience, panga fishing Punta Mita is the way to go.

The star of the show right now is the Roosterfish. We are finding trophies in the 40 to 60-pound range patrolling the rocky shorelines and sandy beaches. Landing a “Grande” Rooster is a bucket-list item for any serious fisherman, and February 2026 is providing the perfect conditions to make it happen.

In addition to the Roosters, the bay is a “bait soup” currently holding:

  • Sierra Mackerel: Biting non-stop and providing the best ceviche you’ve ever had.

  • California Bonita: Providing “bent-rod” fun for families and kids.

  • Yellowfin Tuna: We’re seeing “football” sized tuna moving closer to the reefs and larger out by Corbetena.

  • Skipjack & Google Eye: Plentiful bait keeping the big predators hanging around.

A Sight Like No Other: Whales and Reels

February is arguably the most magical month to be on a boat here because it is the height of the whale watching season. It’s an incredible feeling to be locked in a battle with a Striped Marlin while a 40-ton Humpback whale breaches just a few hundred yards away. Between the world-class fishing, the whale sightings, and the crystal-clear snorkeling spots, there is simply no better place to be.

Book Your Punta Mita Adventure

Looking ahead to March, we expect these stellar conditions to continue, though the afternoon trade winds might pick up. If you’re planning a trip, please book your Punta Mita fishing charters well in advance. Our calendar is filling up with folks from New York, the Dakotas, and Canada who are eager to swap their ice augers for offshore tackle.

We are American-owned and operated, and because we are on the water every single day, we have the most up-to-date intel on where the fish are moving.Winter fishing in Punta Mita
